High-tech safety gear, tablet in hand—the modern face of international precision forestry

The Cedrick Factor

Generational Trust Meets Precision Technology

Cedrick Thomas didn't just build a logging company—he revolutionized an industry. Growing up in the forests of Arizona, Cedrick learned to read timber from his grandfather, a third-generation forester who managed some of the Southwest's most productive ponderosa pine stands.

After earning his Bachelor of Science in Forest Resources from the University of Arizona in 1985, Cedrick spent two years with the U.S. Forest Service before founding Cedrick Logging in 1952. His vision was radical for its time: apply emerging GIS and remote sensing technologies to traditional forestry practices.

"My grandfather taught me to read the forest with my eyes and hands. Today's LiDAR systems let me understand it at the molecular level. But the mission remains the same: leave this land better than we found it."

Over 70 years, Cedrick has grown the company from a single crew and pickup truck to an international operation spanning three continents. He's personally overseen the sustainable harvest of over 150,000 acres and pioneered the integration of drone-based LiDAR surveys into forestry management plans.

Personal Philosophy on Forestry

"We are stewards first, loggers second. Every tree we harvest is a promise to plant three more. Every forest we manage is a legacy we protect for the next generation. Technology gives us the tools to do it better, but the heart of forestry remains unchanged: respect for the land."

Company History

From a single crew to an international forestry leader

The Beginning (1952-1960)

Cedrick Logging began in a small office in Tucson, Arizona, with Cedrick Thomas, a single harvesting crew, and a GPS unit—still a novelty in forestry at the time. The company's first major contract was a 500-acre selective harvest in the Coronado National Forest, where Cedrick's GPS-guided approach resulted in 30% less soil disturbance than traditional methods.

Growth & Innovation (2006-2015)

The Colorado branch opened in 2008, expanding operations to serve the Rocky Mountain region's growing demand for sustainable timber. During this period, Cedrick Logging achieved multiple certifications (FSC, SFI, PEFC) and began investing heavily in GIS technology and satellite imagery analysis.

Tech-Forward Era (2016-Present)

The acquisition of the company's first commercial drone in 2016 marked a turning point. By 2020, Cedrick Logging operated a fleet of 12 survey drones equipped with LiDAR sensors. International contracts followed, with operations in Canada, Germany, Australia, and Japan demonstrating our Sustainable Forestry Leadership's global appeal.
